On June 16, 2024, the “Kick-off Meeting on the Joint Chain Action for Integrated Development of New Power System and Silicone Industry Chains” co-sponsored by Bluestar and China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) was held in Beijing. Present at the meeting were more than 100 representatives from the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), China Federation of Industrial Economics (CFIE), Sinochem Holdings Corporation Ltd., various functional departments and provincial branches of State Grid, Elkem Xinghuo Silicones Co., Ltd., Tsinghua University, and enterprises and research institutes in modern new power system industry chain and silicone industry chain.

At the meeting, Li Bo, Chairman, Secretary of Party Committee and President of Bluestar, delivered a speech as a representative of central enterprises, and signed a cooperation agreement with CEPRI on behalf of Bluestar.

On September 14, 2023, the Joint Chain Action for Integrated Industry Chain Development of Central Enterprises, organized and implemented by the Stateowned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, was launched, aiming to explore ways to create a new pattern of orderly competition and cooperation and integrated development of large, medium and small-sized enterprises, led by central enterprises and supported by high-quality small and medium-sized enterprises such as specialized and sophisticated “little giant” enterprises and manufacturing single champion enterprises. Sinochem Holdings has developed “10+9” key industry chains around its strategic planning during the “14th five-year plan” period, namely 10 dominant industry chains and 9 potential industry chains, and carried out the work on “strengthening, complementing and extending the chain” with a focus on key industry chains. The silicone industry chain is one of the dominant industry chains that Sinochem Holdings concentrates its efforts to develop.

As the leader of the silicone industry chain of Sinochem Holdings, Bluestar is responsible for various management tasks such as the development planning for the silicone industry chain. The silicone business is one of the important pillar industries of Bluestar and one of the most important businesses in Bluestar Elkem’s global business segment. Bluestar has formed an integrated complete silicone industry chain, ranging from upstream metal silicon to midstream polymers and downstream high-end specialty silicone products through business integration.

Having a global presence in more than 30 major countries and regions, including Asia Pacific, Europe and America, 16 comprehensive production bases, 14 R&D centers and technical service laboratories, and more than 1,200 patented technologies, Bluestar has developed a system of various silicone products that are widely used in almost all industrial and high-tech fields such as energy, transportation, construction, consumer goods, health and personal care, electronics, chemicals, especially in power systems, including their application in insulators, high-voltage cables, transformers and capacitors. In recent years, it has increased more in new product R&D and open innovation in the silicone industry chain, with accelerated efforts to overcome difficulties in key core technologies, and has been working on building a complete network of global supply chains network by making full use of global resources. After years of development, it has turned into an industry leader in the silicone business.

In the future, Bluestar will further leverage its technological and industrial advantages in the silicone industry chain to form synergies with the new power system industry chain dominated by CEPRI. The two sides will jointly develop a series of products such as long-service-life composite insulators, packaging materials, sealing materials and electric insulating oils, to help the State Grid build an overhead “highway network” of new power systems that efficiently transports green and clean energy, and ensure the safety and reliability of the “highway network” for energy and the orderly coordination of all aspects. Meanwhile, it will do everything possible to promote the further extension of the silicone industry chain and solve the safety issues in the industry chain, thereby contributing more to the technological breakthroughs and upgrades of the silicone and new power system industry chains, and setting a good example of integrated development.
