On August 18, Hao Zhigang, Chairman and Party Secretary of Bluestar, visited the Beijing University of Chemical Technology, had in-depth exchanges with Tan Tianwei, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Tong Yigang, Dean of the College of Life Science and Technology, and Qin Peiyong, Party Secretary of the Paris Curie Engineer School, on jointly promoting the cooperation of both sides in life science. Jin Gong, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Innovation Department of Sinochem Holdings, and relevant heads of Science and Technology Innovation Department, Strategy and Investment Department, and Adisseo China R&D and Innovation Center of Bluestar attended the exchange.
Currently, biotechnology continues to shift from the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and food industries to industrial fields (such as chemicals, materials, and energy). The "green powers" for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries are as follows: biological manufacturing with industrial biotechnology as the core means; production of energy, materials and chemicals with renewable raw materials such as biomass and carbon dioxide through mild, clean and environmentally friendly biological processing; and replacement of the traditional chemical industrial process with harsh reaction conditions, high energy consumption and high pollution, which are also significant breakthroughs for green development. With innovation and sustainable development, Adisseo, a subsidiary of Bluestar, has become a leader in China's animal nutrition market. Calysseo, the world's first large-scale single-cell protein production plant jointly funded by Adisseo and Calysta, an innovative animal feed protein producer, is ready to start production. Its product FeedKind® is a new type of non-animal and plant-derived functional protein for aquatic products. As one of its R&D centers in the world, Adisseo China R&D Innovation Center has further released Adisseo's strategic determination to continuously expand the Chinese market by adhering to the local strategy source and transnational innovation, which will strongly promote the R&D and innovation work to a new level.
Established in 2003, the College of Life Science and Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology has two first-level doctoral programs, four first-level master's programs, and the first postdoctoral station for biological engineering in China. Its bioengineering and pharmaceutical engineering majors have been selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites. The ESI of biology and biochemistry has been ranked among the top 1% in the world, and the discipline of biosafety has been selected as a high-grade discipline in Beijing universities. In the past five years, the college has undertaken 185 national major and key research and development plans and natural science funds in green bio-manufacturing, bio-resources and environmental engineering, synthetic biology, bio-medicine and bio-security, and published nearly 800 SCI papers. Moreover, it has successively won two silver prizes for national technological inventions, one silver prize for national scientific and technological progress once, and 20 provincial and ministerial prizes. Nearly 200 patents were granted, with nearly RMB 10 billion worth of economic benefits created in the transformation.
During the symposium, the two sides shared and discussed the biochemical development needs of Bluestar in life science and the related scientific and technological achievements of Beijing University of Chemical Technology in enzyme preparation, bio-based nutritional materials, and bio-based chemical materials. According to the two sides, they would further promote the cooperation between Bluestar and the Beijing University of Chemical Technology in Biochemistry. In the future, the two sides will help accelerate the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements in China's biochemical industry by continuing to sort out and focus on the direction of cooperation technology, thus achieving shared and win-win development.
