From August 7 to 11, the 26th World Poultry Congress, the "Olympic assembly of poultry industry", was held in Paris, France. It is the most significant event for poultry scientists and production worldwide, held every four years. And this time coincides with its 100th anniversary. As the chief diamond sponsor of the congress, Adisseo presented its latest research in animal nutrition to more than 3,000 poultry professionals from more than 100 countries around the world. In particular, it launched the animal nutrition energy system—NESTOR Net Energy System, reflecting the strength and responsibility of Adisseo in poultry precision nutrition.

Based on decades of research on the net energy system of Adisseo, NESTOR brings together the relevant information on nutritional values with its long-standing expertise in feed formulation and previous software (PNE and Adict) for precise nutrition released on the market (PNE helps customers evaluate the quality of feed and match the feed according to the actual needs of animals. It is completed through the online tool Adict, which can automatically convert the analysis value predicted by PNE into the nutritional value for feed formulation). NESTOR provides ready-to-use science, a step further in formulation accuracy, support to better associate nutritional values and performance, and net energy formulation for more sustainable animal protein production.

In the rapid process of the development of the feed industry, feed nutritionists continue to strive for perfection. After total energy and digestible energy, the metabolic energy system is currently used to measure the energy and nutritional value needed in the poultry production process. However, the net energy system is of great significance for precise nutrition in animal production and is at the forefront of global research. Compared to metabolizable energy, formulating in net energy enables to focus on providing the nutrients used for the animal maintenance and for its growth, with the possibility to adapt them to specific conditions, such as earing period, sex, age, and breed.

In addition to more precise targeting, NESTOR also covers the whole value chain of related parties, such as the animals themselves, animal feed formulators, researchers, farmers, etc. The more accurate the energy system used in the feed formulation system, the closer the feed formulation designed by the formulators to the real needs of animals for productions purpose. Lots of energy systems are already used to formulate diets for monogastric animals. The net energy system is definitely the most appropriate energy system to be closer to animal needs.

With the critical context of raw material prices, the overall price keeps rising, the breeding end is under continuous pressure, and the breeding industry is of low profit or even long-term loss. Therefore, the abundance of raw materials available to animals and their more scientific use are critical to the development of the animal husbandry industry. By presenting the nutritional needs of animals more accurately and measuring the nutritional value of animal feed more precisely, NESTOR can effectively help feed formulators and scientific researchers worldwide to optimize the formula, promote precision nutrition, and achieve cost reduction and efficiency improvement.

Currently, the net energy system has been applied in the breeding of pigs, ruminants, and other animals. According to the data, at least 50% of pig feed formulations utilize the net energy system, and the net energy system also has excellent practical application effects. Due to the special nature of the reproductive system of poultry, poultry feed formulation is not yet used, but the net energy system still has a broad prospect in the poultry field.
