A few days ago, the Group held the acceptance meeting for the “Research and Demonstration of Key Technologies for Forward Osmosis Seawater Desalination" project under the national sci-tech support plan, the implementation of which was led by Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center Co. Ltd. The expert panel highly appraised the world's largest forward osmosis seawater desalination demonstration project established by Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center and agreed the acceptance unanimously.
This project is a subject of the national sci-tech support plan undertaken by Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center during the “12th Five-Year Plan” period, and is jointly carried out by Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center and East China University Of Science and Technology. It aims to study key technologies such as forward osmosis membrane materials, membrane modules, and draw solutions, and eventually integrate technological units including seawater collection, pretreatment, forward osmosis desalination, regeneration of draw solutions, and mineralization and tempering of water produced, and develop into a forward osmosis seawater desalination project with water production of 500 tons per day.
Forward osmosis is currently the most cutting-edge water purification and desalination technology in the world. Many well-known research institutes and membrane companies at home and abroad are committed to the R&D of it, but most of them still focus on laboratory tests and the process and application remain in the trial and commercial development stage. With the support of the national sci-tech plan, based on existing scientific research and technical talents team, in cooperation with renowned domestic and foreign R&D institutions, Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center has overcome many technological problems and developed the forward osmosis seawater desalination technology, becoming the first in China to set up the world’s first 500 tons/day forward osmosis seawater desalination demonstration project. The project is currently the largest forward osmosis seawater desalination project in the world, with the water production capacity, water recovery rate, and energy consumption of water production reaching the world's leading level.
The acceptance of the “Research and Demonstration of Key Technologies for Forward Osmosis Seawater Desalination” project has made Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center a front runner in the industry technology. Innovation leads development and science and technology shapes the future. Next, Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center will further research and develop water treatment-related technologies, be dedicated to converting scientific achievements into productivity, and promote better development and utilization of water resources to give back to society.
