On November 22nd, Adisseo was bestowed with the accolade of “Outstanding Enterprise of the Year 2024” at the 3rd CSO Forum and Sustainability Excellence Awards, in recognition of its unparalleled achievements in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance.
The forum, revolving around the theme “Forging New Quality Productivity for Global Sustainability,” aimed to highlight and commend exemplary practices in China’s journey towards low-carbon transformation and sustainable, high-quality development.
It served as a platform to promote the widespread commercial adoption of cutting-edge technologies and models, aligned with the national “dual-carbon” strategy, urging listed companies to spearhead the nation’s sustainable development endeavors.
Organized by Ernst & Young and steered by the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, Guangzhou Emissions Exchange, Beijing Green Finance Association, and Green Technology Bank, the event featured an independent judging panel comprising distinguished experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, and institutional investors who selected the award winners.
As a global pioneer in animal nutrition additives, Adisseo has envisioned “providing high-quality food for humanity in an economically secure and sustainable manner.” Strategically, the company not only emphasizes its own sustainability but also champions the sustainability of the entire animal nutrition supply chain.
Animal farming significantly contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions. Adisseo’s groundbreaking feed additives mitigate nitrogen, phosphorus, methane, and other waste emissions during animal growth, optimizing raw material utilization and balancing feeding efficiency with premium farming practices. Meanwhile, in order to comprehensively assess the environmental impact of its products across the entire value chain, by the end of 2023, Adisseo had conducted lifecycle assessments on key products accounting for 75% of its sales, with ambitious plans to elevate this proportion to 95% by the end of 2024. This comprehensive approach enables the company to gain deeper insights into its products’ carbon footprint throughout their lifecycle, serving as a foundation for devising scientific carbon reduction strategies and pathways. Adisseo has outlined a carbon reduction roadmap extending to 2050, pledging a 21% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 compared to 2020 levels.
In recent years, Adisseo has been at the forefront of cultivating new quality productivity through innovative technologies, fostering low-carbon processes within its operations and supply chain. With dual production platforms in China and Europe, the company has relentlessly optimized its operations, implementing myriad carbon reduction measures. For instance, at its Nanjing liquid methionine plant, process optimization to harness energy from excess steam has resulted in annual energy savings of 800 trillion joules. The ongoing wastewater treatment and reuse project, currently in the pivotal equipment installation phase, promises substantial reductions in nitrogen oxide emissions, natural gas consumption, and fresh water usage. Notably, Adisseo surpassed its 2025 target of a 21% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in 2023, setting a solid foundation for its 2050 “carbon neutrality” aspiration.
To ensure the seamless implementation of its sustainability strategy, Adisseo has appointed a dedicated Executive Vice President for Strategy and Sustainability at the executive committee level, tasked with overseeing the company’s ESG initiatives and integrating sustainability into its corporate strategy. Furthermore, the company has unveiled a sustainability roadmap, delineating key goals, initiatives, and commitments to navigate its sustainable development journey.
For eight consecutive years, Adisseo has published its sustainability report, adhering to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, the European Commission’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and domestic guidelines for sustainability reporting by listed companies in preparing its 2023 report. This demonstrates the company’s enduring commitment and unwavering confidence in meeting global sustainability benchmarks.
As a globally operating entity, Adisseo places immense value on the professional growth of its employees, offering diverse training programs and personalized services to cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. The company consistently invests in comprehensive training across all business domains and actively supports the integration of individuals with disabilities into the workplace. Additionally, its “WeCare” CSR program is focused on eradicating malnutrition and enhancing the quality of life, encouraging employee engagement in public welfare activities and contributing positively to society.
In 2024, Adisseo was once again awarded the EcoVadis Silver Medal, ranking among the top 4% of animal nutrition companies, underscoring widespread acknowledgment of its contributions to sustainability. The company was also recognized as an exemplary sustainability practice case among listed companies by the China Association for Public Companies, and its subsidiary Nor-Feed achieved B Corp certification.
The receipt of the Outstanding Enterprise of the Year award in sustainability further validates Adisseo’s strategic approach and tangible efforts in this domain. Looking ahead, Adisseo remains steadfast in its commitment to strategic guidance and innovation-driven development, prioritizing high-quality growth. By continuously nurturing new quality productivity and resolutely promoting green and low-carbon production and services, the company will propel the sustainable development of both itself and the animal nutrition supply chain.
